Colorado transfer tax
Colorado has no true transfer tax; it charges a state documentary fee of one cent per $100 of consideration (0.01%, e.g. $50 on a $500,000 home) when the deed is recorded. Several mountain resort towns levy their own real estate transfer taxes of about 0.5%–3%. The buyer typically pays the documentary fee.
A handful of mountain resort towns kept real estate transfer taxes from before TABOR (1992): Aspen, Snowmass Village, Vail, Avon, Breckenridge, Frisco, Crested Butte, Telluride, Winter Park and a few others (about 1%–4%, often with exemptions). The rest of Colorado has none.
